Medical Career Expos
The Medical Career Expo is a workforce development initiative designed to introduce high school students to the wide range of careers available in healthcare and to connect them directly with the institutions and professionals that power the industry. The program focuses on early exposure, hands-on engagement, and real conversations with practitioners so students can better understand what a future in healthcare actually looks like.
At its core, the Medical Career Expo is about building a pipeline. Healthcare systems across Nevada face ongoing workforce shortages across nearly every discipline, from physicians and nurses to allied health professionals, technicians, and support roles. Many students are interested in healthcare but lack clear visibility into the career paths available or the steps required to pursue them. The Expo closes that gap by bringing the healthcare ecosystem directly to students.
The event brings together hospitals, clinics, universities, training programs, and healthcare companies under one roof.
Each organization hosts an interactive activation or exhibit where students can learn about specific roles, educational pathways, and day-to-day responsibilities within the field. These activations often include demonstrations, equipment displays, and conversations with working professionals who can answer questions about their career journeys.
In addition to the exhibitor activations, the Expo typically features speakers and short presentations from leaders across the healthcare industry.
These speakers provide perspective on what healthcare careers look like in practice, how the industry is evolving, and why the work matters to the community. Hearing directly from professionals helps students see healthcare not as an abstract idea but as a real and attainable career path.
The program specifically targets students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, particularly those already studying health sciences.
By connecting these students with employers, training institutions, and mentors, the Expo helps translate classroom interest into real career direction. Students leave with a clearer understanding of the education required for different roles, the variety of opportunities within healthcare, and the organizations operating in their own community.
